Advanced Epic 8 Wiki

Preface[]

Well, this wiki is dedicated to making D&D 3.5 in the variant of Epic 6 rules easier to understand and to fully include level 8. This does however not imply that it takes away all of the complexity of that system and it does not remove all the problems that can come from falling into certain traps the original game contains. But maybe all the rewriting on this page makes it more clear what is a good idea and what not.

Advanced Epic 8[]

This game is intended to be played by a small group of people. One person will take over the role of the so called Dungeon Master (also known as Game Master) and the others will play a Player Character.

What this ruleset does[]

The ruleset provides a number of option of what kind of campaigns (read setup / story arch) are well supported.

  • Find an adventure site, explore it, get the treasures, repeat.
  • Explore a freaking world
    • This includes worlds full of fanatics
    • This includes worlds where magic replaced technology
    • This includes worlds full of crazy stuff
  • The struggle of Good vs. Evil

How ever it is definitively not supporting highly social stuff. Well, you can use magic and some skills - and if you're good you can make something out of it, but it isn't intended that way.

Creating a viable Player Character - Mechanical Ideas[]

Although rules in theory allow you to ruin your own day where ever you can, it is strongly suggested to harvest bonuses and to create a character that is strong in one field so that it complements other player characters. Harvesting Bonuses through extensive Mix-and-Match of Classes is to be discouraged. It might make a character stronger in the beginning, but you will pretty soon find out that you run into trouble. So in the end: If a class does not support a character concept it is not a good choice. Dipping into a second class for a level or two to get your flavor done is not bad, but dipping into a lot of classes will have a seriously decrease the effectiveness of your character in the long run.
